Bellevue Chamber Chorus Announces
Artistic Director Departure
Bellevue Chamber Chorus announces that its long-time Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr. Fredrick Lokken, will be concluding his work with the ensemble and stepping down from the position at the end of this season, the group’s 35th anniversary year.
During his 19-year tenure, Dr. Lokken has conducted the Chorus in nearly 200 performances of various kinds in Bellevue and around the greater Puget Sound Region, throughout British Columbia, and on two tours of southern and central Europe.
Under his leadership their diverse repertoire encompassed over 700 different choral works ranging from early music, traditional masterworks, and contemporary classical compositions (including several by Seattle-area composers), to international folk music, musical theater selections, and vocal jazz. Local concerts involved collaborations with numerous vocal and instrumental guest artists, and with many area choral and orchestral ensembles.
Dr. Lokken’s final performances with the Chorus will be on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, for “Retrospective: A Celebration!” These culminating concerts of the anniversary season will feature favorite pieces from the past 35 years as chosen by the chorus, the public, and Dr. Lokken.
The Chorus has begun the search process for Dr. Lokken’s successor. Details of that process can be found on the chorus website at www.BellevueChamberChorus.org. For more information call (425) 522-3436.
